Why Notaries don’t like Snapdocs and why companies do

Let me go point by point about how Snapdocs is designed for those who hire, and not for the convenience of those who are Notaries.

1. Cattle Calls
Cattle call style mass texts make life easy for those hiring Notaries. They just input a few lines of text, click a link and a desperate Notary will come crawling to them. One minute of work for the signing company, but dozens of Notaries will have their life interrupted only to find that the job has been given to someone else.

2. Thumbs up or thumbs down?
The Notaries cannot see what the comments are about them. But, companies can get an idea of what other companies think about the Notaries. These comments do not compare to 123notary’s skill analytics. But, this game is no longer about skill, but price and not making any major blunders or leaving people high and dry. I tested many of the best Notaries on Snapdocs and the vast majority did not know how to follow instructions nor did they understand Notary Procedure well at all.

3. Downloading & Uploading
The process of downloading documents or uploading documents is easy for signing companies. It is also easy for Notaries, but designed more with the intent of convenience for those paying to use the system.

4. Record Keeping & Data
Snapdocs stores lots of data about who your connections are who you do signings with as well as job information. This is very convenient for those using the system except that your information about your secret clients will become known to Snapdocs for better or for worse. That was an issue for several companies I am acquainted with.

Personally, I prefer a system where you can get to know the notary in person over the phone before you use them. But, for the millennials out there, Snapdocs fits their cultural model. It relieves people of the necessity and burden of actually having to talk to others. Where has humanity gone? I have to post my latest selfie on Instagram.

If you forget your cell phone in an Uber — if you have an problem with Snapdocs

How is customer service if you have a problem with these two portal based economies?

In the last two years I have met two people who lost their mobile phone in an Uber. But, there is no number to call. You have to do customer support online. But, you can’t get to your account unless you are on YOUR phone which you don’t have because it is in the uber. Geez. What gives?

What if you have a problem with Snapdocs? How good is customer service? Is everything done with an app to solve problems? Personally I am old school and prefer human beings and don’t like technology that I could get stuck with and hit road blocks. But, millennials are my opposite — they hate talking to humans, prefer texting, don’t like marriage or relationships with titles and the men don’t like the idea of being assertive. Good God! What has happened to our species. Personally, I believe this is the angel’s system of making sure we don’t breed so that we can solve the overpopulation crisis without WW3.

What has your experience been sorting out customer service issues with Snapdocs (or Uber)?

Signers who get paid big bucks on Snapdocs

I was reading a very long and detailed response to on of my blog articles about Snapdocs. It was written by a Snapdocs staff member (see it in the links section) explaining that our claims about Snapdocs might be distorted in certain ways and how they are a great portal. In any case, there are signers who get paid well on Snapdocs.

Some signers who use Snapdocs have lots of experience and in my opinion value. A handful of them receive texts for jobs paying low ball fees. The signers just write a counter offer for a higher fee and explain their experience and why they are worth it. Sometimes they get their fee. In real life you cannot always get your fee, but if you do a particular percentage of the time you can make good money and a good profit margin after expenses.

I was reading another comment from a Notary in a remote area who claims they get paid well by Snapdocs jobs simply because they are in a remote area where there are no other options — so the company has to pay the Notary’s asking fee. Interesting.

Snapdocs — repeated messages for the same signing?

This is a new one for me. I was reading blog commentaries and one Notary said she got several requests for the same job after she had turned down the job. How annoying. I have heard that recently multiple signing agencies are sometimes assigned the same job to see who can handle it more quickly. Sounds like something airlines do where you book a flight on one airline only to find that you will be on another because they play tag team with their clients.

So, this poor Notary is being text-barded with a barrage of unwanted texts. She asks people to take her off their list as well since it is so annoying. Personally, I am glad I am no longer a Notary. I can’t put up with all of this last minute nonsense.

Another Notary writes that in Los Angeles, several hundred Notaries can be contacted at once and you have about 3-5 seconds to respond. Good God. I think that in rural areas, Snapdocs might be nice for the Notary, but in Los Angeles the competition from desperate people is too much.

How long do Snapdocs assignments take to pay?

I have heard that SnapDocs helps (or sometimes helps or wants to help) their Notaries get paid in a timely manner, but how? How long does it take to get paid from a SnapDocs assignment? Let me know your experiences.

SnapDocs – total number of signings vs. total documented

There is a common misunderstanding out there. I often ask notaries how many loans they have signed. I get mostly roundabout answers that just don’t give me anything to work with.

ME: How many loans have you signed?

NOTARY: You mean total? In my life?

ME: Yes, otherwise I would have specified a time period. Once again, how many loans have you signed?

NOTARY: Can’t you check on SnapDocs?

ME: I’m not on SnapDocs, I’m on the phone with you. Do you not know what your experience is?

NOTARY: I don’t keep track every day.

ME: Your # of loans signed on SnapDocs is not a total number but a number of loans you signed through their platform. Your total number might be far higher.

NOTARY: Oh, a few hundred.

ME: A few hundred could be anywhere from two hundred to nine hundred. Once again we are not getting any answer I can use to make an input on my form. Hmm.

NOTARY: Just say 250.

ME: Finally, after tugging on you 9x we get an answer. Thanks. Please fill in your notes too.

Does SnapDocs have thin margins?

SnapDocs charges its users a lot per transaction. Every time you download documents, or use the system to find a Notary to dispatch for a job, it costs. The fee is based on how comprehensive the services you use for that particular job and they might have package rates. I am not an expert on what they charge, so don’t hold me to this.

But, they have expenses as well. SnapDocs is a sophisticated portal where they have huge technical expenses as well as rent, salaries, insurance and more. They are running on a margin. And I’m wondering how their margins are when business is sluggish like it is now. Their income goes down, but their expenses remain the same.

And what if they had staff turnover and the new staff lacked the mojo of the more experienced staff who understood their system and business model well, and cared tremendously about the success of their enterprise?

Snapdocs came out of nowhere a few years ago and nobody knows how long they will last. I guess we will find out.

The evolution of American commerce and Snapdocs

In the old days, America used to have lots of mom & pop stores owned by regular American families. As demographics changed, these stores more and more got bought out by Jews, Koreans, Pakistanis, Palestinians, etc. And then as the chain stores took popularity due to their centralized and efficient management, the mom & pop stores had a harder time staying in business and most got absorbed or put under by the chain stores.

SnapDocs is doing the same thing. They have provided a very efficient way of doing business where inefficient service providers are being weeded out. Additionally, other directories like us are losing a lot of market share. Our search results are still vastly superior to SnapDocs, but the millennial users care tremendously about convenience and don’t care about quality probably because they can’t comprehend what quality is, especially if it takes more than three (consecutive) seconds to think about.

On a brighter note for those of us competing against SnapDocs, I have been hearing that their members are getting almost no work. So, maybe there is hope for the rest of us. Maybe they will fizzle out and live, but live small.

Additionally, SnapDocs has weeded out a lot of Notaries who are not that bad, who are just not as fast on the draw as the others. SnapDocs rewards you for being an iPhone slinger. If you are the Jesse James or Clint Eastwood of the Notary industry, you might cut it with SnapDocs. But, if you have to think before you draw — forget about it. Remember — the next signing is for Indio and his men. You can listen to the twangy melody from an antiquated music box as you imagine finally slaying Zapata as you draw for your iPhone the next time you get a text. The same melody that Zapata forced you to listen to as he slayed your family — remember that movie? Drop your iPhones and reach for the sky hombres!

The main thing to remember is that if you don’t want to be phased out, be a quality notary. Be at the top of your skill set, put a lot in your notes section, and do your maximum, not your minimum like the other 99.5% of Notaries who hide behind their years of experience instead of being evidence of real knowledge.

123notary vs. Snapdocs; AT&T vs. Verizon

Snapdocs is a force to be reckoned with. Even though their notaries are bad, and Snapdocs charges a hand and a wrist to use, they still are getting a huge market share. Perhaps we need to compete with them the same way AT&T and Verizon compete.

Maybe I have to talk to the signing companies and offer them anytime minutes if they use our site more. Or maybe I need to offer them new features. Of perhaps I need to offer an easier way to find Notaries on our site.

Most hiring parties I interviewed don’t care if Notaries know anything, they just want people with around two years experience. But, people lie about their experience, so what do the numbers really mean. How many signings do you think these companies really want? If you have signed 200 loans will they try you if they like you?

Maybe I should find a way to pay signing companies to use my site. Every time you use a Notary from 123notary, you can get a chance to win a Starbucks card.

I cannot afford to create the technology necessary to rival Snapdocs, so I have to compete in other ways. Using my femininity is not one of those ways, mainly because I don’t have any.

Perhaps I should try to appeal to generation Z. I don’t even know what they like. I think I know more about foreign cultures in central Asia than I do about generation Z, the post millennials. I do understand generation Y. After you talk to them for more than two minutes, the only question that enters your head is… why?

I think that what will win the battle is finding out exactly what signing companies want and having new search features to give it to them easily. Wish me luck. In the mean time — keep stamping.

What Notaries don’t like about Snapdocs

With so many people complaining about Snapdocs, how is it that they survive. Or perhaps with their heavy bills for programming and engineering services, they are not surviving. I heard a rumor that they wanted to sell out to the NNA. I also heard their offer was rejected by the NNA. Their sister site in Germany called DerSchnappenDokument seems to be a little more financially sound though. Here are some things people don’t like about Snapdocs.

1. Cattle Calls (moo)
Notaries complain relentlessly about cattle calls. If so many Notaries don’t like it, then why do they list on SnapDocs? But, it’s worse. Since few Notaries want to work for free, and few Notaries (other than how Kim Kardashian would be if she were a Notary checking her Twitter followers every two minutes) check their texts every minute, it is hard to get responses to cattle calls. After twenty minutes the calls are going out to people an hour away who definitely are not going to work for peanuts. So, a lot of Notaries are annoyed that most of their texts are for jobs that are too far away. What a poorly thought out system! Then, when you finally do answer a text, you find out that someone else cheaper already answered or that they don’t want you. I personally think that Notaries should wear a bell around their neck and have a diet consisting mainly of grass if they want to continue this nonsense.

2. Thin Margins
Snapdocs charges companies to use their platform. Prices change over time and change based on your arrangement with them. Last I heard it was between $5 to $14 per job depending on which features you used. If you used the billing and downloading software, you might pay more while sourcing a notary alone might be cheaper. I don’t know the details but this is what I have heard. The problem is that companies who use Snapdocs feel that they should deduct the SnapDocs fees from what they pay the Notary. So instead of $80, they might only pay $66 to cover their costs. What companies need to know is that SnapDocs offers technology, convenience, and time saving and that the company using it should pay for that as labor saving technology. You should pay the Notary what they are worth instead of trying to bargain them down to rock bottom.

3. Discrimination
SnapDocs is an impartial search and information platform. But, due to the prominent photos of Notaries on their site, those who use the site are more likely to discriminate. Other sites have photos too, but on signingagent.com, the photos are a lot smaller and not as clear, and on NotaryRotary you don’t see the photo until after you have clicked. Users would be tempted to select Notaries based on how they looked physically or racially more than what their skill level was or how they wrote about themselves. At 123notary, it is more about notes, reviews, and certifications — things of substance.
