Snapdocs has an adjustable radius — should 123notary do the same?

Filed under: Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 11:33 am

123notary is in a huge competition with Snapdocs right now. We are looking at what they do, and what seems like a good idea versus what seems counterproductive. 123notary caters to Notaries on large budgets who pay for wide coverage. Snapdocs caters to people looking for Notaries who want a Notary with the right quality / proximity ratio or algorithm. Our priorities are not the same and hence our algorithms are not either. Snapdocs wins on convenience, but 123notary wins on knowledge.

On Snapdocs, a company searching can set a radius as wide or narrow as they like. And Notaries can only have one zip code on file.

On 123notary, Notaries who have money to spend can sign up all over the nation and a handful do. Our system of showing Notaries where they don’t live is controversial. It helps Notaries promote themselves, but might be annoying to those who want to find someone close. Hmmm.

Snapdocs has 60,000 Notaries, yet only a few hundred are people I would consider hiring. But, you can always find people really close if you want.

123notary has about 7000 online Notaries of whom I would try out at least one thousand. We tend to show Notaries who are a bit farther if we consider them to be better.

So, what is the bottom line — adjustable radius, smart customized radius, or keep it the way it is? Our radius is already customized based on what area you are in by the way, but we could customize it more intricately in the future if you like.

Snapdocs – their profiles are getting more impressive, but …

Filed under: Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 12:41 am

I have noticed over the last two years that the profiles of Snapdocs members have been getting more impressive. You see Notaries with more experience, a better repertoire of loans under their belt, and better looking photos of Notaries as well. If I didn’t know any better, I would think that those Notaries were the top of the line. However, I keep test scores of Notaries and have learned that the Notaries who look good on Snapdocs don’t necessarily actually know anything about how to be a notary or signing agent. They merely look good and probably respond to texts really fast.

The equation here is speed versus knowledge. It is hard to get both in one Notary. Notaries who have experience and a wide variety of jobs under their belt have experience that is worth noting. However, book knowledge versus experience rarely seem to add up. I have quizzed those who have no experience who studied and they can sometimes score a high grade on my quiz while those with twenty years of experience can fail.

The moral of the story is that in the Notary industry, it is hard to find a single Notary with purely positive attributes. Here are the attributes I consider important.

1. Getting back to people (an attribute of communication)
No matter how smart or experienced you are, if you don’t return phone calls or emails, you are basically worthless. Snapdocs capitalizes on this and in essence requires responsiveness to survive on their platform.

2. Attitude
If you are the best Notary in the world, but talk back to people and are generally rude, you will ruin everyone’s day.

3. Speed
Snapdocs seems to capitalize on this virtue quite effectively. If you get back to people fast, it is easier to work with you, even if you are not the best notary.

4. Knowledge
A well studied Notary is a lot less likely to make mistakes than one who is just winging it. This quality is more of a 123notary attribute.

5. Experience
Having experience on the street looks impressive on your resume and profile. It means you are less likely to make certain types of mistakes because you would have been put through the meat grinder many times already if you were making those mistakes. However, there are knowledge related mistakes that the most experienced Notaries make daily without even knowing it because most of them refuse to read notary manuals or study up!

6. Quality of Interaction
Some Notaries do not know how to have a professional phone call. If you read our articles on professionalism and etiquette you can see the details.

7. Maintaining a profile
Sometimes the best Notaries in the world write the worst notes sections and do not maintain their profiles.

Summary
To sum it up, Snapdocs is very good at point 1 and 3 which are at the top of my list. However, they are lacking in most other points. The reason for this is that the type of clients who use Snapdocs do not want to invest in knowledgeable Notaries as it is too expensive. After you pay Snapdocs their hefty fee and pay the Notary their low-ball fee, you will want a profit if you are a signing company.

What has your experience with Snapdocs been like?

Filed under: Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 12:25 am

Different Notaries have different experiences. I notice that some Notaries login to Snapdocs every day to gain high placement in the algorithm. Others do nothing but complain of low fees and bad offers. A few Notaries tend to negotiate higher fees and sometimes get away with it. One Notarycomplained that if he doesn’t answer texts right away, he doesn’t get any offers. But, now he says he doesn’t get any offers at all.

Snapdocs has a preference system. If you are the Notary picked, you get a text first and a few minutes to respond. If you don’t get back to them, they auto-text a handful of other nearby Notaries. The system makes sense, but the pay is still low.

So, what has YOUR experience been like with Snapdocs?

Snapdocs has a good algorithm, but…

Filed under: Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 10:36 am

Snapdocs has a good algorithm that sorts their Notaries well. The better ones are on top based on their reviews and performance and how recently they logged in. But, some of them are no longer in business unfortunately. Snapdocs lets you know if they have logged in during the last 45 days, but beyond that it is a crap shoot. There are many has beens on that site. Hmmm. The other problem is that their best Notaries are not that great and the general overall quality of Notaries on their site is dismal, but their technology is super.

I guess the various sites have different business models.

Snapdocs focuses on great technological platforms.
123notary focuses on having the best Notaries.
NotaryRotary has the closest Notaries and also has many high quality Notaries.
Signingagent.com has the best quantity of Notaries and NNA Certified, but not necessarily experienced or serious.

So, for each need, there is a niche in the market. The problem is that there are so many tens of thousands of mobile notaries, it is hard to keep track of all of them.

The other thing about Snapdocs that is interesting is that they show you Notaries who are really close to the job. Normally within 12 miles. That is great, but in areas where there aren’t so many Notaries you might not get so many good choices, and if you did, the choices would be too far. I guess it is hard to win.

123notary has the opposite problem. We list people who serve particular areas regardless of how far away they are, within reason. If they are more than 60 miles away, I generally do not list people that far unless it is a very remote area.

So, who provides the best search? I guess that depends on your search needs!

SnapDocs — thumbs up or thumbs down?

Filed under: Popular on Linked In,Popular on Twitter,Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 10:29 pm

Notaries who use SnapDocs not only get a ton of ratings from people who used them, but the ratings are anonymous. You wonder if the ratings are even based on reality — because they can say anything! One lady on NR was furious that she only got a 77%. I have no idea, is that good?

Your entire reputation is controlled by God knows who and with information that is not even necessarily even correct or given using integrity. Additionally, you don’t know WHY you got a thumbs down. Was it because your fee was too high? Was it because you didn’t answer your phone or email fast enough or because of a scheduling issue? You’ll never find out!

But, what about the Notaries? If something goes wrong it is automatically the Notary’s fault. The Notary is penalized on SnapDocs, but not the client.

The fact is that SnapDocs clients pay them big bucks to use this convenient and automated system that performs all sorts of automated functions for them. That is excellent and I commend them for that. However, they do not seem to care about the common Notary!

Maybe I should learn from all this and design some functions into 123notary to be for the benefit of the Notary! Notaries need someone to defend them, and the forum is great, but not enough! Maybe there’s another way.

In the meantime, SnapDocs gets a thumbs up for quantity of work. However due to the quantity of endless complaints from Notaries about their service, I wonder why Notaries who have any experience at all are willing to put up with this kind of headache…

WFG National Title Insurance Company

Here is a condensed version of the more interesting comments about this company on our forum.

(1) Penny
“I have not received payment since my assignment and invoice to WFG on November 28. Despite numerous emails saying it’s in the mail, or will be in the mail, zero.
Penny 1-17-17”

(2) Joan
“WFG in Westlake Village, CA is giving me the run around with my fee being received. Completed signing on 9-30-16, it is now 11-29-16. Unacceptable. They claim they are going through a transitional period since Michael Crowder is no longer with them. What has that got to do with A/P getting my money to me?”

(3) DanNotary
“May not be dealing with them again. Huge packages, lots of work, difficult to get through to anyone and get a response. They pay $125 but if I do anything again its going to be $150.”

(4) 29993
“I have noticed that the loan packages are getting very large…so I have begun to notify, particularly WFG whose files average 170 copies…that my minimum fee is increased by another $20.00..As I mentioned before I have had no problems getting paid and have asked each time if the file is larger than 120 pages to add in another $20…but I’ve had to followup to make sure that it was…..so this week I am sending out notifications to most of the companies I work for to increase my minimum fee to include the $20. Whenever I accept a signing…they will need to include it in the order or I will return the assignment right there and then………We all have to begin to hold the line on our fees or if you accept less then you only have yourself to blame….Good Luck!”

(5) Garyw148
“I agreed to perform a signing for WFG for 10:30am the next day. At 8am I had yet to receive any documents. WFG did not answer any of the 4 phone numbers I called. Nor did they respond to the emails I sent to 3 different people. My last email was that I was going to call the borrower and let them know the signing was cancelled. Moments later (10am) I received a response not to call the borrower that the documents were coming. Then I got an email stating the day would be changed. I called the borrower and basically said to stand by. I requested to be paid via PayPal. I got a call from Mike stating they never pay via PayPal and he would remove me from there list of notaries. I said fine. Be carful here folks. Read the other reviews.”

Who and what is Snapdocs?

Filed under: Popular on Twitter,Popular Overall,Signing Company Gossip — Tags: — admin @ 9:47 am

It is not a day that goes by the I don’t get a call into 123notary.com about SnapDocs. Who are they? How do I sign up with them? How much do they pay? And, more often than not, ‘They have destroyed my notary signing agent business’.

So let me start off for folks that don’t know – they are not a signing service. This is just a platform set up where notaries can register and create an account for free, upload their credentials. ex: commission, bond, E & O, background check, certifications etc. Once your credentials have been verified by the staff at SnapDocs

(I assume this means that they are making sure your documents are current) and you have completed your profile you are all set to receive notary assignments. You set your profile to receive jobs via email and/or text. Hiring companies that have also signed up can now choose a notary from the site. It costs the signing company that utilizes this service 8.00 per assignment so I have been told. Ouch! The signing services can also rate your work and/or performance. You however, cannot rate the signing service. Personally, I don’t think this is fair. There are just to many of them that don’t pay and really take advantage of us.

Several of the signing service companies that use it have stated that they love the interface and the user experience is good – for them. However, on the other hand many notaries have expressed concern that companies that use to pay regular and a fair fee have now begun to also offer lowball offers. I assume that is because of the 8.00 fee to use the platform. The notaries also resent that there companies no longer contact them direct via telephone. The problem with this is their is not enough information that is given in the text or email. It tells you the date and time and whether it requires faxbacks but usually nothing else. IMO, this is not enough information given to make a decision whether to take a assignment or not.

Personally, I deactivated my profile. I got annoyed with all the low ball offers. It was a waste of my time. So there you have it. I would love to know how the rest of you feel.

Thanks for reading, be safe.

I felt like I was being used (Snapdocs assignment)

Another Notary worked for Snapdocs and had an emotional reaction after the fact. She got one of those low-ball assignments, took it, and then complained she felt like she was being used. If you don’t like working for below market rates, nobody is putting a gun to your head! This new signer was concerned about wear and tear on her car, ink, paper, gas, etc. The bottom line here is that anyone who uses you is using you no matter the price. You sell your services for money. The question is, do you know the value of your time and do you know the itemization of your expenses for various types of jobs?

There is no set value on your time, so you have to create your own value. If you don’t know your value, how will you accept or reject jobs. For newbies, the value of getting work under your belt is much more than the value of your dignity. An inexperienced Notary in my book is not worth much. If you have less than 1000 signings and no certifications, I personally wouldn’t use you for anything. If you have 5000 signings and three certifications, then you become valuable as long as you have a good track record.

SIGNING CO: Would you do this modification for $100?

NOTARY: I will not – I have morals

SIGNING CO: How about $1,000,000?

NOTARY: Well, okay…

SIGNING CO: How about $150

NOTARY: What kind of Notary do you think I am?

SIGNING CO: We’ve already determined that, we’re just haggling over the price.
