Notaries are always complaining about low-balling, cattle calls and a shortage of work. But, in the last few months, business has been so bad that many have reported that on Snapdocs, the texts stopped all together.
I have lived through different economic cycles from inflation in the 70’s to a recession in the 80’s to the dot com bust in 1999 and the 2008 financial crash. However, I have never seen an industry crash quite like now. I am amazed that 123notary is surviving so well in this difficult time.
So, what do you do when the texts stop? Do you get another job? Do you sit and wait? Do you cry?
When business is bad, I tend to work even harder. That means we get less sign ups so I have to scour the internet to sign people up myself, screen many out, and repeat the process. What about you? When business is bad do you try harder or get more apathetic? The winners in this industry try very hard. I suggest doing exactly that.

Snap docs is not the be all and end all. We can be very inventive, think out of the box.

Thing are not slow March and April have seen record rate drops and Refi and purchases are on a all time high. If notaries are not getting jobs there not trying very hard. Persistence is key.

I have closed over 50 transactions through Snapdocs…I read where there seems to be problems in other areas so I am not sure if it is reflective of where you live….Here in Ca. it’s been pretty steady…there are always ups/downs….I would review your profile on NNA and be sure and upgrade any areas that need it…for example I speak another language and it has definitely helped considerably…no matter what other language you speak…your years of experience…not only with notarial work but in any industry….all this goes into your profile.Take advantage of special classes online to further your knowledge….NNA with the Signing Agent has one when you extend your credential….any little thing you can add…will help you get more business….Good Luck to you all..

Snap docs for me here in Cali wasn’t great at all. I’ve seen an up tick in business March & April 2019. But, I’m going to have to get an 8 to 5 job here soon. In fact I’m getting several interviews now. I can still to this business on the side of course. I agree Snapdocs isn’t the end all be all it. There are still plenty of signing services out there that don’t use it. I prefer to not use it anyway.

Business has been outstanding for the past 3 months.. When it slows up I send a personal email reminding them I am out there, etc, but, of course, in a professional manner.
I also email companies just to say thank you for their business.
I clean up my offce area, read forums, etc.

Save as much money as you can through the slow times. Every business has a down tIme and we need to be ready for it..
What goes up, must go down, and vise versa.

Glad to know that business is slow and it isn’t just me. FYI, I had a signing not too long ago with an older woman who did NSA work some 20 years ago, when pretty much nobody knew of such a service as well all offer. She had to drive an hour one way and received $50/page–no NOT a typo. PLEASE REMEMBER, when you are tempted so accept a low ball offer, go back and recalculate your costs to drive, MAINTAIN your car, $.xx/total # of miles you have to drive From your House, to drop the documents and ALL OF THE WAY home again, plus costs to print and use YOUR toner. Every loan signing nets the title company and/or lender a couple of Thousand of dollars. I do NOT intend to give my services away to parties collecting $ like that, and you shouldn’t either. We are ALL worth being paid for performing this extremely detail oriented job that is So much more than a clerk at a copy machine. Sooner or later the NSA’s who are accepting these low ball offers are going to find a job that actually makes a profit. Good time to Spring Clean your home office, too!

Things are going well for me. I’m receiving just the right amount of signings. Allows me time educate myself on notary rules and regulations and promote my business.

Remember, STOP taking the low-ball signings. These companies are getting 350-600 for you to show up. Not to mention, that you have to wait to be paid, sometimes two months. It’s a joke. If you don’t get at least 100.00. Don’t do it. Don’t give in. We do NOT live in a 3rd world country. If you think that you will just take what comes then you get what you get. I have stood my ground many times. It works. 🙂

It has not been slow here in MS. I wish I knew other notaries to recommend. I hold out to get my price. I do not take low ball fees. I have had to turn down at least 10 signings already this month. One recommendation I have is to contact attorneys and let them know what you do. I have one attorney I work with that pays 200.00 a signing that are only 9 pages to print. The jobs are signing people up for class action lawsuits. It takes less than 5 minutes a job. Hope this helps.
