What do Notaries charge? Feedback from blog commentary

Filed under: Notary Fees & Pricing — admin @ 10:19 pm

Notary pricing is across the board and the people responding to my blog articles might be on the more experienced or successful side. I’m not sure about that claim though as I have no way to verify. Here are some results to my question about — what do you charge?

See the entire list of comments with what they charge for fax backs, printing, and other types of signings.

What do you charge for Notary work & signings?

For straight refinances people responding charge:
85
90
100
100
100
110
125
150-250
200-250 (must be a pro)
175-200

Summary
Of the responders who are not looking like they represent the community as a whole, but might represent a higher percentage of very seasoned Notaries, the mean price seems to be about 100-110 per refinance, but the average for them might be more like 125.

Most Notaries are complaining about being low-balled, and having to take low offers. Perhaps they are too busy working for peanuts to respond to my blog.

It is quite possible that the average Notaries get paid these days for refinances is 70 or 80 because most jobs come from Snapdocs. However, in our defense, the higher paying jobs normally come from 123notary although people low-ball using our site as well.

  1. One Title Company that hires me has a price sheet that they require notaries to fill out. It assumes regular size refinance (100-120 pgs) and full faxbacks. Extra mileage is the biggest variable. I preparrd a table of zip codes and distances from my office. I put them in Three categories and charge the appropriate rate. I avoid snapdocs if possible, because of the low ball offers, and because I prefer faxing to scanning to their site. Since I am familiar with this Title Company lenders docs I charge $125-$150.

  2. You are correct in stating the higher paying jobs come through 123 Notary. This is where the Title Companies go to get good Signing Agents. This is where all my $200 – $250 jobs come from. Most of them have told me that after finding a Notary on 123, they’ll further vet them on NNA. That part disturbs me about the power of the NNA. I know that the Notaries on 123 are much better vetted than the NNA.

  3. I agree that I have received higher paying jobs from 123 rather than Snapdocs.

  4. I am mostly taking Amrock, Quicken Loans signings. As I serve a very rural area, it it difficult for me to take more than 2 signings on any given day. They pay me $150.00 for re-fi plus $20 print fee for up to 80 miles from home.

If gas goes up, I will have to ask for more.

  5. I have been an active Notary for the past 14 years and have finally got to the point where I am making a decent living. The business is being taken over by signing companies who relentlessly try to low ball the services of Notaries. I say we all band together and start sending letters to our congressmen and senators the following proposal for new law regarding Mobile Notary work.
All Fees for Mobile Notary work must be the greater of either $100.00 or 20% of the Origination Fee charged by the lender. The fee for the Notary will come directly out of the Origination fee and will become an integral part of the closing costs, and this is not negotiable by anyone.

  6. I charge anywhere between $125-$150 If scanbacks are required, I add $25 because I have to scan the documents and they go back out to drop to UPS or fedex. I ask if they require scanbacks. There is one particular company where no notarization is required but you have to scan back 15 pages only and then drop. For that I just charge $100.

  9. I’m on Oahu in Hawaii, so prices are higher here. My minimum for a refi with two signers is 175, unless its within about 2 miles.

Other types of signings, sellers or small packages are about $100-$150 depending. If they want full scan backs, hand delivery to title, or other type of hand holding (picking up docs at the airport, meeting signers in a secure location (military bases) I may charge closer to $200.

  10. Ge nerally, I charge a flat fee, 150 for all I do, unless, They want me to trek to reach the signing destination. Then I’ll tack on 25 dollars travel fee.

  11. I agree with this as well. I don’t think I’ve ever received an offer below 100 on 123Notary. On snapdocs on the other hand I see plenty of $75 offers.

  14. I live in a rural part of Texas and have a base fee of $100 for signing and then bill for drive time. A flat fee for mileage doesn’t work for me as these are country roads and 30 miles might be 45-60 minute drive. I also charge a minimum0f a $50 room fee as Texas requires a title or attorney office for the signing if it is a cash-out. Fee for room is based on what office charges me.

  15. My minimum fee is $175, additional for scans.
