Notary Public 101 from 123notary!

It has come to my attention that most Notaries are unaware of the existence of Notary Acts above and beyond simple Acknowledgments and Jurats. Being aware of unawareness. Kind of a wash? Additionally, the vast majority of Notaries draw a blank when I ask them the rules for Acknowledgments and Jurats. I was hoping for a blank check but no such luck. I did not know how bad the level of ignorance is. I was ignorant about the ignorance. But, now that I acknowledge my ignorance, I am writing this tutorial. It is mandatory that you understand basic Notary acts if you are to be listed on 123notary, and we WILL test you on it and you will be regarded as a “Fake Notary” if you don’t know your basics when I drain the notarial swamp so to speak. Fake news. Fake notaries!

This Notary course is for those who are already Notaries who need a brush up on the most critical aspects of the profession. This is not a how-to course for beginners.

Thank you for studying from our course. We hold Notaries advertising with 123notary responsible to score at least 70% if we ask them random Notary questions by phone.

  1. Thanks for the study material. I will be calling to complete the phone test next week. 904-859-2800. I look at the glass half full . I think most notaries are competent and understand that continuing education is needed to stay sharp in this profession. The opportunity to do that with your company is a Benefit to the notary and 123 notary. Thanks for the opportunity. Jesse L. Wilcox, Jr. Florida.

  2. I was reading your article about thumbprint… I keep a log… I get 2 forms of ID… I work in florida.. no thumbprint…I keep a paper trail… only issue is most of the agreements with the title companies say I cannot keep a paper trail… all electronic docs must be destroyed… what should I do?

  3. Rodney, That is a good question since the agreement(s) I have with major title agencies say the same. I keep the journal as complete and exact as I can to the signing. If something is “off” or different than something I have encountered before, I make a note of this as well.

Thank you Jeremy for holding us accountable.
I work all kinds of signings from Debt Structures, to POA’s to Hospice documents for Health Care and have found over time all kinds of situations arise. “Can a notary witness a document for a signor if the notary is not notarizing that document” but is notarizing other documents for the signor in the same sitting….. is a recent item that came across my desk.
