Story about a counter offer on Snapdocs

Story by Steve Weinstein

I don’t know if you want to post this, but it happened to me: Snapdocs posted: $65 Reverse Mortgage application with 20 pages to fax back, I countered $85. turns out the print was 285 pages, plus ever Notary knows Reverse Mortgages are never easy at the signing table. I My fee got bumped up to $95. When I spoke to the Signing Company that I did not think it was right to low ball the fee on Snapdocs, they said it was just a baseline and Notaries could ask for a higher fee. My concern is that Notaries are accepting low ball fees. Seems like there should be some kind of industry standards..

  1. My minimum fee for an RM Appl is $125/$150 for the final. More if over 15 miles. I get it, too.

  2. I tell the scheduler up front RM’s are not fun and take a long time. 99% of my signings are 20 – 60 miles and I tell them my fee is $200. If they negotiate then I check the mileage closer for a reduced fee.

  3. Yes, RMs are document heavy; to me, any application is worse than signing the final papers. I’ll try for $125 at a minimum. Low balls are a problem. There is one frequent service on snapdocs that does everything well, but lowballs. Their offer for Helocs with scanbacks always starts at $60, and I counter with $100. I used to get many closings, but not the last few months, which means their offers of $60 are being accepted; in the last week or so, they’ve offered $50! Wish there was a way for snapdoc notaries to unite on fees, legally!

  4. I am having a hard time getting paid and it is getting real old. I know the appraisers, lenders and others don’t have a problem with this but notaries across the board struggle with this.

  5. Thanks for the feedback. I needed to know this. I’m new at this, so knowing this will help me in the future1

  6. $200. Period. Fot RM’s /other long distance or difficult signings like Buyer AND Seller I do not negotiate. When they tell me they need to check, I tell them if they cannot get my fee, Have a great Day! and I’ll catch you on the next one! Have some pity on the scheduler who doesn’t make the rules. You will be surprised how often they meet your fee.

  7. Yes minimum 125 please let’s all get consistent on our fees there’s plenty of work out there for all of us and it’s a lot of work prepping for all the signings we deserve 125 minimum for most signings
