How Do Interest Rates Impact Mobile Notaries?

Filed under: Public Interest — Tags: , — Tom Wilkins @ 12:00 am

As a mobile notary, understanding how interest rates impact your business is essential for success. Interest rates can immediately and directly affect mortgage loans and closings that you may be asked to service on behalf of your clients. This factor inevitably influences your rate of income. Knowing how interest rates work can help you become more proficient in financial planning and give you an edge in providing the best services for clients. In this post, we will take an in-depth look at what’s involved with how interest rates affect mobile notaries so that you can better navigate both current and future financial activity within the industry.

Interest Rates and How They Impact Mobile Notaries

Interest rates have a significant impact on the mobile notary industry. They determine the cost of borrowing and affect various aspects:

Loan Affordability: Lower interest rates make loans more affordable, increasing demand for notary services in property transactions.

Housing Market: Lower rates stimulate home buying, increasing the need for notary services in real estate transactions.

Economic Activity: Interest rates influence consumer spending and business investment, impacting the demand for notary services.

Disposable Income: Rate changes affect consumers’ spending habits, potentially impacting the demand for notary services.

Investment Decisions: Interest rate fluctuations can influence notaries’ investment choices, potentially affecting business expansion.

The Effects of Low-Interest Rates on Mobile Notaries

The impact of low-interest rates on mobile notaries must be balanced. With a significant portion of their income dependent on financing, any changes in interest rates can drastically alter their finances. Low-interest rates have been perceived in a positive light by some, as they have made it easier for businesses to borrow funds. However, this has led to intense competition within the notary market, resulting in pressure on mobile notaries to reduce their rates to remain competitive. As a result, the net amount mobile notaries receive for notarial services has decreased considerably. In addition, low-interest rates have also caused a reduction in demand for mortgage refinancing and purchase transactions, which are critical to the mobile notary business. Overall, the effects of low-interest rates on mobile notaries have mainly been adverse, with a significant reduction in income and work opportunities.

The Benefits of High-Interest Rates for Mobile Notaries

As a mobile notary, having high-interest rates can bring about many benefits. One of the most significant advantages is the ability to earn higher profits. With high-interest rates, there is an increased demand for loan signings and other notary services, opening up a more incredible opportunity for mobile notaries to increase their income. High-interest rates can also lead to more refinancing and home sales, leading to more business for mobile notaries. Understanding how interest rates affect mobile notaries and how they can leverage this to their advantage to grow their business is essential. By staying informed about market trends and interest rate fluctuations, mobile notaries can stay ahead of the competition and take advantage of opportunities. High-interest rates can significantly impact the success of mobile notaries in the industry.

The Silver Lining: Opportunities Amid High-Interest Rates

As interest rates continue to rise, many individuals and small businesses may become apprehensive about the potential negative impact on their financial standing. However, it’s important to note that high-interest rates offer a silver lining – especially for mobile notaries. As rates increase, demand for refinancing and other financial transactions may also increase. This presents opportunities for mobile notaries to offer services to clients seeking assistance with these transactions. Mobile notaries can also use higher interest rates by investing in high-yield savings accounts or other financial products. While rising interest rates may seem intimidating, they provide opportunities for those willing to adapt and seize the moment.

Take Charge of Your Success by Actively Staying Informed About Interest Rate Changes

In conclusion, interest rates can have a significant impact on the operations of mobile notaries. Not only does it affect the cost of borrowing to finance and expand their business, but it also affects the fees they can charge when underwriting documents. Understanding how interest rates affect mobile notaries may impact your business as a mobile notary is vital so that you can make plans for success and efficiency as interest rates continue to fluctuate. If you have any questions or concerns about how these moments might affect your commission, consult a legal advisor or financial planner familiar with the laws surrounding Notary services in your state. With this information and more in mind, you can make informed decisions that will allow you to move forward as a commissioned Notary confidently.

Master Your Productivity: Easy Hacks

In today’s fast-paced world, we all have much on our plates. Between work, family, social obligations, and personal goals, staying on top of everything can be challenging without feeling overwhelmed. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to improve your personal productivity and get more done in less time. In this blog post, we’ll explore some easy hacks that you can use to master your productivity and achieve your goals. Whether you’re looking to boost your work performance or get more out of your leisure time, these tips and tricks will help you make the most of every minute. So, let’s start and discover practical ways to improve your productivity!

Set achievable and specific goals.

Creating specific goals gives you a precise idea of what you want to achieve and allows you to determine what matters most. It is essential to ensure that your goals are practical and possible. You can divide them into smaller tasks to make them more manageable and less intimidating.

Use a to-do list or task manager.

Keeping track of your tasks and responsibilities in writing can help you stay organized and focused. Use a to-do list or task manager to track what needs to be done and prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency.

Take breaks and schedule downtime.

Remember to take breaks regularly, even when you’re busy trying to meet deadlines or get more done. Taking breaks allows you to recharge and refocus, making you more productive. It’s a good idea to schedule breaks into your day and ensure you get plenty of rest and relaxation outside work or study.

Minimize distractions

Distractions can eat up a lot of your time and can make it hard to stay focused. Identify your biggest distractions, and take steps to minimize them. This might mean turning off notifications on your phone, closing unnecessary tabs on your computer, or working in a quieter environment.

Stay organized

Keeping your workspace and materials organized saves time and reduces stress. It’s essential to have a system for filing and organizing documents and materials to save time searching for them later.

Get enough rest

Sleeping and caring for your physical and mental health is essential for productivity. Lack of sleep and poor health can lead to fatigue and decreased productivity. It’s important to prioritize self-care and ensure enough rest to stay focused and productive.

Continuous learning

Continuously learning and developing new skills can help you stay competitive and productive. Look for opportunities to attend training sessions, workshops, or online courses to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Take action today to master your productivity and achieve your goals faster!

To conclude, tackling productivity should not feel like a battle or a chore. With the simple hacks and solutions outlined above, we can better manage our workflow and achieve higher levels of efficiency without compromising the time for rest or leisure. In particular, creating a well-crafted schedule, utilizing helpful tools such as time-trackers and project management tools, and seeking help from smart notaries when needed can be beneficial. Taking advantage of these strategies can take us a long way in mastering our productivity more innovatively. With diligence and sustained effort, let’s become more organized while earning more free time!

But, I’m still a virgin!

This was originally published many years ago.

I was meeting with my editor / comedy writer. He told me that my writing had improved a lot in the last 18 months. I took a look at my writing and found that he was correct. But, I still make mistakes. So, as he was looking at one of my articles, he found a few small mistakes. “You missed an explanation point!” “There should be a question mark here, and a common in the following sentence.” So, I added the punctuation that I missed. Then, he found something more serious.

ANDY: You missed a period!

JEREMY: Does that mean…?

ANDY: You’re PREGNANT!

JEREMY: But, I’m still a virgin!

Your photo is worth 1000 words… misspelled words

Filed under: Advertising — admin @ 8:43 am

As I go through the other directories looking for Notaries to add, I notice a correlation between the quality of your photo and the quality of how you do in real life on my site. I cross-reference data on my site to photos on Snapdocs for example. Here is what I noticed.

1. A good photo shows your face clearly. Some mediocre photos show a person far from the camera, and perhaps with other people.

2. A good photo has a good background. If you show a photo of you in your messy house, or in a neighborhood with lots of trees, cars, and buildings, it is disorienting to the person looking at the photo. If you show the wall of an attractive building behind you, or one where the background doesn’t distract from the main point of the photo (you), then that is a good point. Those with professional photos often have a solid color background behind them. Additionally, if you are wearing a dark shirt or have a dark skin tone and have a dark background, you blend into the background. If you wear dark, have a light background. If you wear a white shirt, perhaps a darker background.

3. Some people come across as very beautiful or sexy. That might be nice for a dating app. Remember, you are on Notary apps, and your clients probably don’t want to date you, and probably don’t want to date them — although you never know. After a few drinks the game changes completely. Try to look professional.

4. Try to look like someone who works in a bank or office who handles paperwork. Some of the people on SnapDocs look like lowlifes, or like people who work at the corner store. People who are serious about hiring a Notary want someone who looks like a professional clerical type. You don’t have to look that smart, but you do have to look responsible and conservative. So, if you drink a lot, or do drugs, or are tired, don’t have your photo taken until you can appear sober, alert, well dressed, and presentable.

SUMMARY
Most of the Notaries on Snapdocs and NotaryCafe look like people I wouldn’t hire even if it were to save my own life. Many people look like they have attitude problems, or look unprofessional, or worse. People who don’t eat properly or who take drugs or too much alcohol develop an air of haziness and have a faded appearance. You can spot these types very easily. They look like people who are mentally slow, and who will not get things done correctly or on time — and above all, will not care. If you want to get hired — don’t look like that.

I can sense a lot by tuning into people, and their photos. Some women look like they have anger problems. Others look depressed, terrified, or something else. When you are handling half million dollar loans, you need to look like a methodical clerical type who is pleasant, but not too emotional. Try to fit the part so to speak when you are having your photo taken and in real life.

People with good photos have a one in three chance of being acceptable to 123notary after we are done talking to them and quizzing them. Those with no photo or a mediocre photo are in my experience not worth adding as they are more like a less than 10% chance of worth keeping.

SUGGESTIONS
If you want to do well as a Notary, most sites have the option to post a photo. 123notary does not do this as we focus on information and not a fashion show. However, a photo reveals a lot about your soul and who you are, or at least who you are pretending to be.

1. Investing $100 or more on a professional photo shoot makes sense. Being well rested, wearing professional attire and having someone top notch take 50 photos of you in different poses and backgrounds makes sense. You choose the best ones and work with those. I did this for dating apps and got tons of responses from my top notch photos. The photo worked miracles, although I didn’t meet anyone compatible. But, married life is like a prison I hear, so I am happy that I have my freedom. But, as a Notary, you want clients, not freedom, so get a photo taken by a pro.

2. Spend time having photos taken of you with different professional looking outfits and backgrounds and then compare them. You will do much better with photos if you can pick the best one out of several dozen or several hundred. The average guy just takes some sub-par photo and upload it and then wonder why nobody calls them. Don’t be that guy.

3. Spend some time looking at photos of people who do look like professional clerical types and try to see how they portray themselves. I find that they are not too happy, not sad, not too fashionable, but neatly kept. They dress like they work at an office, but not too fancy usually. They keep their hair neat. Most of all, they look like they get work done in a timely manner.

4. SigningAgent.com has a much higher rate of professional looking people. Whether they are good Notaries or not remains to be seen, but most of the photos look like people I would not have an issue with at a minimum.

5. How you present yourself in general really matters. Having a clear photo where you can see your face easily when it is a thumbnail photo, and with a clear background is key. Most Notaries do not give much relevant information in their notes section. Having reviews from clients about your service is also critical and very few new additions to our site have even one review. Lastly, being certified by 123notary, Notary2Pro and LSS really helps a lot. If you have all the bells and whistles, your phone will probably ring.

But, if you have a bad photo, just remember this:
A mediocre photo is worth 1000 words — misspelled words.

Notary Public Day — every Nov 7th

Filed under: General Stories — admin @ 7:53 am

Since 1975, every November 7th has been celebrated as Notary Public Day. I have never heard of this day before. I don’t think very many Notaries celebrate it. I’m not sure how you should celebrate it. Perhaps getting a rectangular cake that looks like a frosty Notary seal would be the best way. And you could sing Notary songs about declining backdating requests, 15 year whisky and a 30 year loan, I’m running out of song ideas.

To me that is one more excuse to party. But, would Notaries get together with other Notaries (competition) and celebrate, or get together with friends and describe their profession and listen to all of their lame questions? Hmm. Food for thought.

The date of November 7 was chosen as Notary Public Day in recognition of the date that America’s first notary, Thomas Fugill, was commissioned. Fugill’s appointment by the Colony of New Haven happened on October 25, 1639 (Julian calendar), November 7 on the Gregorian calendar now in use. So, Fugill’s Notary commission was not in Fugility nor was it in futility!

I’ll contact my local cake makers. We really need to make a thing out of this. We should contact calendar makers to get them to put it in the calendar as it trumps some of their other inconsequential holidays like Canadian Thanksgiving (observed.)

What is the favorite thing about my job?

Filed under: Social Media — admin @ 7:49 am

I was doing my work, doing some data entry on 123notary like I do daily. And I kept going through more and more lists and updating data. And then, I accidentally clicked on the wrong button and the page turned to my blog login. I didn’t even remember the password although I almost did. I have it encrypted in an email to myself in a particular file. And FURTHERMORE, I don’t even remember the URL to get to my blog login without having to look it up. It’s one of those long and complicated ones. How did I get to this page? Bizarre.

So, then I logged in and the first thing I did was read through the comments. My post about Carmen Towles got lots of comments. People really miss her — me too. The people liked my articles on Notary chips, notary vaccines. I’m not sure if this was commentary, jokes, or insights.

But, I was shocked because there was only one rude comment in months. Usually we are flooded with rudeness. Not sure what happened there. What happened? Where did all the rude jerks go? Actually my blood pressure will be better off without them and I can’t publish their comments in any case.

So, now I am publishing articles after a long hiatus where I was too busy to post. Glad to be back in the blog scene. But, how did I get to this page? Angels visit me regularly for healing work, so perhaps they wanted me to finally take care of my blog work. That would add up in my case. But, if you said that happened to you — I wouldn’t believe you!!!

Notarizing Paul Revere

Filed under: General Stories — admin @ 11:45 am

A Notary was bored, and invested in a time machine. He wanted to see how people lived in different times and places. So, he set the machine to send him to ancient Egypt to see the pyramids in Giza. But, the machine malfunctioned and he ended up in the Boston area in 1775.

The Notary got out of his British looking phone booth, and walked around on a dirt road bewildered thinking, “Where am I? This doesn’t look like Egypt. I want some felafel.”

A crazy guy on a horse almost ran him over screaming, “The redcoats are coming — The British are coming.” The British were leaving Boston to march to Concord to confiscate some ammunition, weapons, gunpowder, etc., from the colonials.

NOTARY: Hey watch where you’re going.

PAUL REVERE: You shouldn’t walk in the middle of the road lad, it’s dangerous.

NOTARY: And learn to signal your turns. It’s common courtesy.

PAUL REVERE: I’ll work on it. Wait a second, what century are you from. Those are very odd clothes.

NOTARY: Ay lad… now I’m talking like you guys. I’m from the future and my time machine broke.

PAUL REVERE: We can’t even get gun powder easily here in the middle of a revolution, so I don’t think I can help you. But, do you know where I can get a good Notary Public?

NOTARY: Ay laddie, I’m a notary, and I brought my stamp. It doesn’t expire for a while, but I’m commissioned in Massachusetts

PAUL REVERE: Massachusetts colony?

NOTARY: It becomes a state. There are 50 states in my time.

PAUL REVERE: 50 lad? My head is spinning. Next thing you tell me is that we become the most powerful country in the world, and they give partial credit to me just for riding Barnie around screaming the news.

NOTARY: Actually, you become a well loved historical figure. Here, can you sign your John Hancock here?

PAUL REVERE: I know John. He’s an acquaintance of mine. He lives in Massachusetts you know. Born here and will probably die here.

NOTARY: His signature will become famous. He will sign the Declaration of Independence in another year or so.

PAUL REVERE: Wow, so I’m going to be famous and he is too. I’ll drink to that. Jump on back, I’m going to Monroe Tavern in Lexington to warn the locals, and then on to Concord. Just let me sign your log book, I hope this is not considered backdating by about 240 years, but… as they say in the valley — what… ever… Please stamp my document. Do you need wax for that?

NOTARY: We don’t use wax in my time.

PAUL REVERE: Okay, we’ll have a pint in Lexington, and then on to Concord. Then we can try to see what we can do about time machines. Hey, I have a friend in Phili who loves gadgets and futuristic inventions. His name is Ben Franklin — great with the ladies. We can ask him to ride up. It’s only a few days Southwest of here.

NOTARY: I guess I’m stuck here, so we’ll have hasty pudding, drinks and do some sniper attacks on the red coats in the mean time.

PAUL REVERE: Good. Are you good with a musket?

NOTARY: Gee, we’re a little close on this horse. So much for social distancing.

PAUL REVERE: Don’t worry, I don’t have smallpox. Onward ho…. Yee Haw!!!

Commentary on NNA’s post about accepting tips

Filed under: Business Tips — admin @ 8:26 am

In the NNA blog, they published a very nicely written document about whether or not it is ethical to accept tips as a Notary Public. The law seems to omit covering this point.

An improper influence?
NNA’s position (I can see them asking me to not mention them in my blogs within hours of when this is published, but here goes) is that you should NOT accept tips as it could be seen as an improper influence.

Here is my commentary

In-house services
If you are providing in-house Notary services, there is a state maximum for which you can charge. In california it is $15 for an Acknowledgment or Jurat. You cannot ask for more than that. If someone gives you a gift of an extra tip, it seems a little questionable to me. On the one hand you are in the clear in certain ways since you did not ask for that extra money. On the other hand, you violated the maximum fee in a sense. In this situation, I agree with the NNA that it would be better not to accept a tip.

Mobile services (not called out-house unless you really need to go.)
If you are providing mobile notary services and your state doesn’t have any Marxist restrictions on your liberty to determine your own pricing, in my opinion, the customer can offer you any type of tip they like. You are not restricted in any way as there is no price fixing for mobile work in most states (there are nine states or so that do have restrictions.)

Any small tip could be construed as an influence, one perhaps for more favorable scheduling and service next time around. However, it doesn’t seem credible as a bribe to be coerced into doing something illegal or unethical like backdating or falsifying someone’s identity. Bribes for those types of illegal services would be in the tens of thousands and not an extra $5. An extra $10 is an innocent way of saying thank you and we value you, not a bribe.

One of the greatest joys as a mobile notary is to get one of those wealthy, generous and charismatic clients who is flamboyant in the praises and gifts that they give you. If you are a Notary who makes their life easy and pleasant, you deserve those gifts in my opinion. Notaries have been given gift certificates, movie passes, boxes of chocolates, and more. As an in-house Notary, it is slightly questionable and “safer” as the NNA claims not to accept this gift. But, it is not illegal to accept a gift from someone and you might offend them or hurt their feelings if you don’t.

So, I respectfully agree, while disagreeing with the NNA on this issue, but I do respect their correct idea that it is “safer” not to accept gifts. It’s also safer for a ship never to leave the harbor, but then what good is it being a ship if you just sit there collecting barnacles?

Here is the original post and it’s interesting

Notary fined $385 for botching a Notarization

Filed under: General Articles — Tags: — admin @ 10:49 am

Originally posted in 2018

Many of the Notaries on our site are so incompetent about communication and Notary practices that I shutter to list them. The fact is that I am not always informed when Notaries get in trouble. I would like to hear more stories of Notaries who goof and get in trouble because I want to learn how to prevent the problems from happening in the future.

The fact is that a Notary in Louisiana (I don’t remember clearly the name of the state but think it is Louisiana) did a Notary job for a loan signing. The Notary was new and had no idea what she was doing. There were numerous mistakes on dates, signatures, notarizations, etc. In fact there were so many mistakes that the Lender make the Notary pay for the redraw of documents. The bill came out to $385. Ouch. What a nasty surprise for this enthusiastic but clueless Notary.

The moral of the story is that you cannot just get a Notary seal and start working without knowing what you are doing. The states don’t prepare you at all for Notary work. Even California gives very little hands on training. NNA certified notaries have been trained in some basic aspects of loan signing, but that course does not teach basic Notary knowledge. So, if you think you “know what you are doing” because you are NNA certified, try taking NNA’s Notary Essentials course first. It is better to know how to be a Notary than a loan signer, because most of the mistakes notaries make are either rudeness, leaving people high and dry, not following directions, or you guessed it — Notary mistakes. Notaries very rarely get in trouble for not knowing their loan documents and rarely get in trouble for dating an RTC wrong although it could happen.

So, become an expert at being a Notary. You can get into trouble with me if you don’t and trouble with the law, lenders and customers as well. Knowledge is power and ignorance comes at a high expense.
