Inappropriate phone behavior

Filed under: Marketing Articles — admin @ 10:14 am

Many of you love to criticize me of having inappropriate phone behavior. But, I am not involved in customer service. I do quality control. Being nice in my job description comes last in a long list of other requirements. But, you guys are service providers and have to be nice to me, Carmen and the people you work for whether they are the hiring party, borrower, or related parties.

There are many types of behavior that are just completely unprofessional and it just bothers me that there are so many unprofessional people on this site. Here they are. I make a call to someone and they say,

Why are you calling me on a Sunday? (whiny voice)
If you were a high paying company, would you deal with a rude whiner if you had a choice? The answer is no, and that is why so many of you are being low-balled.

Do you have any idea what time it is? (antagonistic voice)
I call people between 9am and 9pm their time unless they advertise later hours. If it is 8:30 pm at night it is not too late to call. And if you don’t want to talk on the phone, why answer?

Sorry I can’t talk, I’m in a signing.
If you are in a signing and make it a practice not to talk during signings, then don’t answer the phone unless it is the Lender or Title. If you do answer the phone, give them 90 seconds before you cut them off. It is rude to open the door and then slam it in someone’s face.

Who are you?
After I explain who I am and why I am calling, many less intelligent people with poor listening skills ask me all over again (usually once the timed phone quiz has begun) and reverse the questioning. Instead of me asking them five questions, they ask me five questions and then waste my time and then claim that they are not interested in answering my questions. I don’t give my time to those who waste it. If you give signing companies a hard time, the only ones who will continue to use you will be low-ballers.

Could you repeat that?
Everybody needs something repeated from time to time. But, some people need to have me repeat everything I say. Do they have a bad phone line or are they just brain dead or not paying attention? Pay attention when you get a professional call, because nobody good will bother to deal with you if you are a pain in the neck.

Try to act considerate and professional. If you cannot, then don’t answer the phone!

  1. The following is not meant to be a political statement. As Susan Collins said recently….. “we have forgotten the common values that bind us together as Americans”. That appears to be your problem when you state that “Being nice in my job description comes last in a long list of other requirements.”
Being nice, whether you are the hiring party or not, is a basic human value that we all need to remember. I am not trying to be antagonistic or whiny. I am tired of seeing the constant division is this county and I would like to see all of us benefit from your business and your knowledge. Please take a moment to think about this and try to see things from your and our prospective.
